Donate here! I have always been too busy, or too selfish, to bother taking up a "cause." That was until April 11, 2007, when my grandmother Angie died after a shockingly brief battle with acute myelogenous leukemia.

Otherwise a vibrant and healthy woman, this form of leukemia which our family had never even heard of, stole her from our lives far too soon. Our disappointment with the treatment options for seniors who are already suffering the devastating effects of this illness has prompted me to finally get involved with something important, something bigger than myself. It's my way of paying tribute to my grandmother with the hopes that other families like us will be offered a better chance of fighting and curing this horrible disease.

Thanks to you, my wonderful family members, friends and co-workers, Angie's Angels raised $1,095 in 2007. This year, please help us surpass last year's efforts so we may all take part in combatting combat blood diseases.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Light The Night Walk is the nation's night to pay tribute and bring hope to thousands of patients battling blood cancers and to commemorate loved ones lost.

The Society funds lifesaving cancer research that has contributed to major advances in the treatment of blood cancers and many other types of cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants that have prolonged and enhanced the lives of patients.New targeted therapies that kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue have already begun to provide drugs and procedures that are improving quality of life.

But more research is critically needed:

Every five minutes someone is diagnosed with blood cancer. Every ten minutes, someone dies.

Leukemia causes more deaths among children than any other cancer

More than 20,000 Americans died from lymphoma in 2006

The survival rate for myeloma is just 33 per cent

Please make a donation to support Angie's Angels first Light The Night Walk and help save lives.
